Q&A WITH THE AUTHOR
from the The Brown Bookshelf

Q. What do we still need more of in books centering Black people and Black experiences?

A. In books centering black people and black experiences, we still need diversity. We need more characters who listen to different music like The Beatles, Elvis Presley, and Elton John. We need more characters who want to be painters and presidents and peacemakers. We need more characters who are a part of the LGBTQ+ community, who are differently abled and who are immigrants. We need more characters who grow up in wealthy and middle class neighborhoods. We need more characters who reflect the uniqueness, excellence, and diversity among black people.
